Supportive Oncology Program

The Supportive Oncology Program is an important service within the Yale Cancer Center, committed to improving the quality of life of our patients. Specifically, a multidisciplinary team provides care and consultation for patients who have problems with pain and other symptoms related to cancer treatment.

As a multispeciaty cancer center, Yale provides cutting-edge technology for the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of multiple types of cancers. At the same time we have a commitment to compassionate, holistic care that addresses the emotional, social, psychological and spiritual needs of our patients and their families.

Supportive oncology programs provide evaluation, assessment, individual and family counseling, and advocacy. The Yale program is expanding the availability of nutritional counseling, massage therapy and Reiki, as well as educational programs and support groups. Under the direction of a medical oncologist the team of professionals also includes a social worker, pastor/chaplain and volunteers.

The multispecialty team also innovates research initiatives in the supportive oncology discipline.
