Pediatric Hematology & Oncology

The goals of Yale Pediatric Hematology & Oncology are to provide outstanding patient care, superior education for residents and fellows, and innovative research. Pediatric Oncology is a major component of the Yale Cancer Center (YCC). A multidisciplinary team of physicians in pediatrics, laboratory medicine, surgery, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, pathology, therapeutic radiology, and diagnostic radiology, as well as nurses and social workers, are closely integrated with Pediatric Hematology/Oncology to optimize the coordinated delivery of clinical care.

Patients are seen in the Smilow Cancer Hospital @ Yale-New Haven, 7th floor. Those requiring admission are cared for on the Children's Hospital inpatient floors in special "clusters" dedicated to hematology/oncology patients. Although each patient has an individual primary attending, cases are managed through a multidisciplinary team approach.

In the past three decades, advances in therapy for patients with oncologic diseases have occurred primarily through the efforts of multi-institutional cooperative group clinical trials. Yale Pediatric Hematology and Oncology has been a member of one of the international pediatric oncology groups since 1987. The merged groups are now the Children's Oncology Group (COG).
