Nephrology

Yale Nephrology provides expertise in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic kidney diseases. Physicians are board certified in both internal medicine and nephrology and are recognized experts in the field. The team offers round-the-clock primary care to patients with established renal disease or hypertension and is readily available for consultation on newly referred patients. Inpatients are cared for in YNHH and outpatients are seen in the Temple Medical Center and the DaVita Healthcare Centers in New Haven and Branford.

The Renal Failure Program offers dialysis care through a partnership with the DaVita Dialysis Center, a dialysis corporation that links clinical expertise among many dialysis programs. Yale Nephrology cares for over 250 patients requiring maintenance dialysis, as well as providing home dialysis for over 60 patients. Home peritoneal dialysis and rehabilitation are top priorities. Renal transplant care is provided in collaboration with Yale-New Haven Transplant Center. The Acute Dialysis Program of YNHH offers conventional hemodialysis, charcoal hemoperfusion, and continuous venovenous hemofiltration/ dialysis.

Nephrologists collaborate with other disciplines to offer the highest quality of care. Diagnosis and management of glomerular disease is aided by world-renowned pathologists. Management of renal disease in pregnancy is offered jointly with Yale's High-Risk Pregnancy Team, and management of patients with renal vasculitis or lupus nephritis is provided with rheumatology. Severe hypertension is co-managed with the Yale Vascular Center. Difficult and complex vascular access for dialysis is approached collaboratively with physicians from Vascular and Interventional Radiology and dedicated surgeons.
