Yale Therapeutic Radiology (Radiation Oncology) is part of the Yale Cancer Center (YCC), one of the cancer centers in the United States designated by the NCI as a Comprehensive Center. Clinicians are board certified in the field of Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology. The department offers a broad spectrum of radiation oncology services for adult and pediatric patients with malignancies and is widely recognized for cutting edge clinical innovation. Examples include the following: breast, central nervous system, eye (ocular melanoma), gastrointestinal, genito-urinary, gynecologic, head and neck, lung and chest, Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, sarcoma, and benign and malignant disorders of the skin. Yale was the first in the region to treat patients with stereotactic radiosurgery and has been an international leader in offering innovative combinations of radiation and chemotherapy.
The department plays an integral role in the evaluation and management of patients seen at YCC. Members of the department participate on a regular basis in multidisciplinary conferences and clinics with specialists from related areas, such as gynecologic oncology, gastroenterology, medical oncology, neurology, neurosurgery, pediatrics, pulmonary medicine, surgical oncology, thoracic oncology, dermatology and the Yale-New Haven Breast Center.
The department introduced Americium-241 for the treatment of gynecologic malignancies.
